Forza Horizon 6 gameplay in Japan with sports car

A stunning sports car racing through a vibrant Japanese city at night, surrounded by neon lights and modern skyscrapers.

One of the most loved racing games owned by Xbox and its studios has always had a special place in the gaming community. I personally played Forza Horizon on my gaming laptop, and I have to say that it was a really amazing and fantastic experience. What I really like about Playground Games is that the studio listens to its community. For years, fans have been asking for Japan as the next location for the Horizon Festival, and now that wish has finally become a reality. With Forza Horizon 6, Playground Games has taken the Horizon Festival to Japan, one of the locations that fans have been requesting for years. After spending time exploring its roads, cities and countryside, the big question is simple: Is Forza Horizon 6 really worth playing? In my opinion, yes. Forza Horizon 6 is one of the strongest entries in the series, especially for players who enjoy open-world racing, car culture and the freedom to explore a beautiful world.

Welcome to Japan

This time, the game takes players to Japan, offering a large and diverse representation of the country. The map combines modern cities with rural areas, mountains, forests and traditional Japanese environments. One of the biggest highlights for me is Tokyo. While driving around the city, especially in the Toyota GR, I felt that Tokyo had its own personality. The buildings, streets, lights and different areas make the city feel much more alive. The city is also much more interesting when you simply drive around without following a race. You can explore busy streets, modern buildings and quieter roads before leaving the city and heading into the countryside. But Japan is not only about Tokyo. The game offers a huge world with mountain roads, countryside areas, snowy locations and routes inspired by Japanese landscapes. This variety makes exploring the map enjoyable, even when you are not participating in a race.

The Driving Experience

Moving on to the driving experience, I noticed that the game feels very enjoyable behind the wheel. Playground Games has put a lot of attention into the details of driving, and this becomes noticeable when you start trying different cars and different types of roads. The controls are accessible enough for new players, but there is also plenty of depth for players who want to improve their driving skills and tune their cars. You can drive through busy cities, race across the countryside, climb mountain roads or simply take your favourite car for a relaxing drive. This freedom is one of the main reasons why the Horizon series has become so popular. You don't always need to follow the next race. Sometimes, you can simply choose a car, select a destination and enjoy the journey. For me, that freedom is one of the things that makes Forza Horizon 6 more than just a racing game.

When I opened the game for the first time, one of the things I noticed was the huge selection of cars. Forza Horizon 6 features more than 550 cars, giving players a massive collection to discover, customise and drive. Japanese car culture also receives a lot of attention, which makes perfect sense considering the game's location. Players can find famous Japanese performance cars alongside vehicles from manufacturers around the world. The customisation options are another great part of the game. Players can change the appearance of their cars and create their own unique builds. For car enthusiasts, this can easily become one of the biggest reasons to keep playing. There is always another car to discover, another vehicle to customise and another road to test it on.

Graphics and Visuals

When it comes to graphics and visuals, Forza Horizon 6 is something else. The game features impressive details, beautiful environments and better-looking reflections. Personally, I really like how vibrant the world looks, especially when driving through cities or exploring the countryside. The reflections from buildings, lights and wet roads can make the cars and environments feel much more realistic. The game can look particularly impressive when you are driving at night or during changing weather conditions.

Playground Games has also added advanced graphical features such as ray-traced reflections and ray-traced global illumination, along with modern upscaling technologies. These features can make the game look even better, especially for players with powerful gaming PCs.

Seasons and Weather

When it comes to seasons, Forza Horizon 6 continues an important part of the Horizon experience. Japan is particularly suitable for a changing-season system because the country has such a wide variety of environments. The changing seasons can completely transform the appearance of roads and landscapes, giving familiar locations a different atmosphere. Driving through Japan during a beautiful sunset is one experience, but driving through a snowy mountain road or a wet city at night feels completely different. For me, these changes help make the world feel more alive and give players another reason to explore the map.

My Final Verdict

If you like racing games with a huge open world, I think Forza Horizon 6 is definitely worth considering. The Japanese setting works extremely well for the Horizon formula. The combination of Tokyo's streets, mountain roads, countryside, changing seasons and Japanese car culture gives players plenty of reasons to explore. What I personally appreciate most is the freedom. You don't have to spend every minute competing in races. You can simply choose your favourite car, pick a road and enjoy driving through the world. The large selection of cars, impressive graphics and detailed environments make the experience even better. Sometimes, a great sequel doesn't need to completely reinvent everything. It simply needs to take what worked before, improve it and place it somewhere exciting. For me, Japan is exactly the kind of setting that Forza Horizon needed, and I really recommend giving Forza Horizon 6 a try if you enjoy open-world racing games.
