Finally, Rockstar has shown us the GTA 6 gameplay, although I wouldn't say it is a solid gameplay trailer because it is a mix of cinematic scenes and actual gameplay. We have been waiting for years, and the game has even been delayed, but now the wait is finally over. In less than four months, we will be able to experience the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is a long gameplay presentation captured entirely from the game on PlayStation 5. I had to wait six hours to watch the trailer on YouTube, and I was truly shocked by the graphics, mechanics and the incredible level of detail that Rockstar managed to capture directly from the PS5. The footage gives us a much better idea of how GTA 6 will look, feel and play when it finally arrives. After watching the Extended Look, there are many details worth talking about, from the relationship between Jason and Lucia to the massive world of Leonida. Rockstar showed us much more than we had previously seen.
GTA 6 Extended Look: Rockstar Reveals New Gameplay, Features and Details
Footage one
The trailer showed us the smooth switching between the two characters, and we can already see how important Jason and Lucia are to each other. When the two characters are together, players can switch between Jason and Lucia during certain situations, while switching between them can take longer when they are separated. One feature that really caught my attention is that if you get into trouble, you can call your partner for help or ask them to get you out of a difficult situation. I think this is a really good feature because it could make missions more interesting and give players someone to rely on when things go wrong. This is not simply about having two characters to play as. Don't forget that Jason and Lucia are also in a relationship, so players can spend time together, drive around the map and discover the beauty of Leonida while experiencing their story. I think this could make the world feel more personal and give us more reasons to explore outside the main missions.
Footage two
Third-person tactical combat showing cover mechanics behind crates/blocks during a dynamic shootout.
The combat this time looks much more detailed, and it seems that Rockstar has given the system its own style. Jason and Lucia can use cover during shootouts, move around obstacles and interact with their surroundings while fighting enemies. We have seen some similar ideas in Red Dead Redemption 2, but GTA 6 appears to take these mechanics further with more detailed and enhanced movement. The footage also showed more dynamic movement during firefights, which makes the action feel more realistic and flexible instead of simply standing behind cover and shooting. Vehicle combat also appears to be important. During one sequence, players can fight while involved in a high-speed chase, adding another layer to GTA's traditional action gameplay. For me, this makes the combat look more exciting because players seem to have more freedom to react to different situations.
Footage three
High-speed nighttime police chase viewed from behind a black modern sports car.
The wanted system really caught my attention. The Extended Look showed us that escaping the police is not simply about driving quickly until the wanted level disappears. Players can change vehicles and use different methods to make it harder for law enforcement to track them. This could make police chases feel more unpredictable and exciting, especially when you are trying to escape through a busy city. The game also brings back the familiar six-star wanted level, giving players another reason to be careful when their criminal activities get out of control. If Rockstar can make the police react more naturally to what the player is doing, I think this could become one of the best improvements in GTA 6.
Footage four
The car-stealing feature also appeared in the trailer when we saw Jason trying to hijack a vehicle. One of the most interesting small details is the way car theft works. The footage showed different approaches to stealing a vehicle, meaning players can take a more aggressive approach or attempt to break into a car more carefully. It may seem like a small feature, but these little details can make the world feel much more believable. After all, stealing cars is one of the main activities associated with Grand Theft Auto. Giving players more than one way to take a vehicle could make the experience feel less repetitive and make even simple activities more enjoyable.
Footage five
Rear perspective of a high-performance red sports car cruising down a Vice City boulevard.
Driving has always been an important part of GTA, and this time it appears that Rockstar is taking vehicle handling more seriously. When Jason gets into a car and begins driving, the vehicle seems to have its own weight and feels more stable on the road. I also noticed small details when the car turns left or right, such as the indicators appearing to work naturally. These details may not seem important at first, but they can make a big difference when you are spending hours driving around the open world. Rockstar has also shown that vehicle upgrades will be more than simply changing how a car looks. For players who enjoy driving around the map, customising cars and exploring different roads, this could become one of the most enjoyable parts of the game.
Footage six
A vibrant, densely populated beachfront promenade in Vice City under bright daylight.
One of the biggest improvements I noticed is the amount of activity happening around the player. The world of Leonida is filled with different types of people, locations and activities. NPCs appear to have more varied appearances and behaviours, while different parts of the map have their own atmosphere. Rockstar has also shown more detailed interiors and crowded locations, which can make the world feel much more alive. This is important because an open-world game is not only about how large the map is; it is also about what happens inside that world. A smaller world full of interesting things can feel much better than a huge empty map, and GTA 6 appears to be focusing heavily on density, detail and interaction. When you are simply walking or driving around and there are people doing different things around you, it can make the experience feel much more natural.
Footage seven
Outdoor recreational water sports showing a female protagonist riding a purple jet ski through open waters.
GTA 6 does not appear to be focused only on missions and shootouts. The footage showed several activities that players can enjoy while exploring the world, including water-based activities, outdoor activities, social locations and different ways to spend time with the characters. The game also appears to give Jason and Lucia more opportunities to simply live in the world rather than constantly moving from one mission to another. This could make GTA 6 feel more like a living world rather than simply a collection of missions connected by roads. For me, this is one of the things that makes an open-world game special because sometimes you don't want to follow the story. You just want to get into a car, explore the map, discover something new and enjoy the world.
Footage eight
Lucia and Jason sitting across from each other at a wooden outdoor bar table during sunset, sharing an intimate, quiet moment.
Another detail I really liked is how much attention Rockstar is giving to the relationship between Jason and Lucia. The Extended Look showed them spending time together outside of dangerous situations. They can drive together, interact with each other and share quieter moments. Rockstar's official character information also makes it clear that their relationship is at the centre of the story. Jason is trying to build a better life after becoming involved with criminals, while Lucia is starting a new chapter after leaving prison. Their relationship could make GTA 6's story feel more personal than simply following a group of criminals from one robbery to another. I am particularly interested to see how their relationship develops throughout the game and how our actions as players will affect their journey.
After watching the Extended Look, I can understand why so many players are excited about GTA 6. Rockstar did not simply show us better graphics; it gave us a much closer look at the characters, combat, driving, police system and the world of Leonida. Personally, I was most impressed by the small details because they make the game feel more alive. From the way cars behave on the road to the activities happening around the player, Rockstar seems to be putting a huge amount of effort into creating a world that feels believable. Of course, we still need to play the final game before we can say whether GTA 6 will live up to the enormous expectations, but after watching this Extended Look, I am even more excited to finally get my hands on the game.
