A proper game released in recent years has amazed gamers with its realistic graphics and impressive visuals. I think you already know which game I mean: Alan Wake 2. The game delivers a masterclass in psychological horror, alongside some of the most visually stunning graphics seen in a modern horror game. With the game being so visually impressive, many gamers are understandably asking an important question: Is Alan Wake 2 demanding or heavy on PC hardware ?

In this blog post, I will answer your questions and explain what you need to know about the game's system requirements. But before we dive into the requirements, let's take a quick look at the game itself. Alan Wake 2 is a survival-horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment. The story follows two main characters: FBI agent Saga Anderson and writer Alan Wake, whose journeys take place in two connected but very different realities. Saga travels to the small town of Bright Falls to investigate a series of mysterious ritualistic murders. Meanwhile, Alan Wake remains trapped in the mysterious Dark Place, a strange world where his writing can influence reality. The game focuses heavily on storytelling, exploration, investigation and survival. Light also plays an important role in the gameplay, as players use it to fight supernatural enemies and survive the darkness. Alan Wake 2 was released in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its impressive visuals, detailed environments and demanding graphical effects have also made it an interesting test for modern gaming PCs.

Alan Wake 2 System Requirements: Can Your PC Run It?

It's one of the most demanding PC games out there and perhaps the most detailed I've ever seen. Detailed environments, advanced lighting, and atmospheric visuals make it an impressive showcase for modern gaming hardware. But that also raises an important question for PC players: what kind of computer do you need to run Alan Wake 2?

Even though the game is demanding, the good news is that you don't necessarily need an extremely expensive gaming PC. According to the official PC requirements, the game can run on a GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX 5600 XT, while the recommended configuration uses an RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6600 XT. Both configurations require 16 GB of RAM and a 90 GB SSD. However, there is an important detail to understand. Meeting the minimum requirements doesn't mean you will be able to play the game with maximum graphics settings or a high frame rate. Your actual experience will depend on your resolution, graphics settings, CPU, GPU, drivers, and whether you use technologies such as DLSS or FSR.

Alan Wake 2 Minimum System Requirements

*Windows 10/11 64-bit
*Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD equivalent
 *RAM16 GB
*GeForce GTX 1070 / Radeon RX 5600 XT
 *Storage90 GB SSD

These are the minimum requirements, but they do not guarantee a solid 30 FPS. It is important to keep in mind that minimum specifications usually mean playing on the lowest graphical presets, possibly at a lower resolution. Even then, your frame rate may drop to 25 or 28 FPS during intensive scenes, such as heavy combat or areas with dense visual effects, depending on the overall health of your hardware and its cooling status. Consequently, you must ensure that your hardware is working properly, with clean components and updated drivers, to achieve the most stable performance possible from this baseline.

Recommended System Requirements

*Windows 10/11 64-bit
*CPUAMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel equivalent
*RAM16 GB
*GPUGeForce RTX 3060 / Radeon RX 6600 XT
*Storage90 GB SSD

Even if your PC meets the required specifications, you must ensure your cooling system is operating effectively. Overheating causes severe performance throttling. Furthermore, if you are playing on a laptop, always keep it plugged into wall power; this is essential for accessing the device's maximum performance and achieving the best experience.

My Final Verdict

You don't need a monster powerfully PC to run this game. Yes, it is heavily demanding, but what we talked about above is enough to run it and enjoy it. Just keep in mind that the better your cooling system works and the smoother your hardware runs, the better your experience will be. It all depends on your specific hardware. However, if your PC cannot run it, do not force it, because you might actually damage your hardware.
