Will the RTX 3060 Run GTA 6? Here’s What PC Gamers Need to Know

RTX 3060 graphics card and GTA 6 PC gaming

With Grand Theft Auto VI becoming one of the most anticipated games of 2026, PC gamers are already asking an important question:

Will the RTX 3060 be powerful enough to run GTA 6?

The GeForce RTX 3060 is still widely used by PC gamers. NVIDIA's reference specifications include 12GB of GDDR6 memory, second-generation RT cores, third-generation Tensor cores and support for DLSS.

However, there is one important problem.

We don't know the official GTA 6 PC requirements yet.

Rockstar's official GTA 6 website currently lists the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the release scheduled for November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not published official PC requirements.

So rather than pretending we know the answer, let's look at what the RTX 3060 can realistically offer and what GTA 6's technology could mean for PC hardware.

The RTX 3060: What Does It Actually Offer?

Before discussing GTA 6, it's important to understand the graphics card itself.

The RTX 3060 belongs to NVIDIA's Ampere generation and comes with 3,584 CUDA cores. The standard RTX 3060 configuration includes 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM, although NVIDIA also lists an 8GB version. It supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, DLSS and DirectX 12 Ultimate.

The 12GB version is particularly interesting for modern games.

VRAM isn't the same thing as overall GPU performance, but having 12GB gives the RTX 3060 more memory headroom for large textures and demanding game environments.

That could become useful in a game as ambitious as GTA 6.

So, Can an RTX 3060 Run GTA 6?

Probably — but we cannot guarantee it yet.

This is where the distinction between prediction and confirmed information matters.

Based on the RTX 3060's capabilities, it is reasonable to believe that Rockstar could make GTA 6 playable on this class of GPU through appropriate graphics settings and optimisation.

The final performance will depend on Rockstar's PC optimisation, the game's graphics settings, resolution, CPU requirements, VRAM usage and whether technologies such as DLSS are supported.

1080p Is the Most Realistic Target

If GTA 6 eventually supports the RTX 3060, 1080p would be the resolution I'd look at first.

The RTX 3060 was designed as a 1080p-focused gaming GPU, and its 12GB memory configuration gives it useful headroom for demanding games.

However, GTA 6 could require compromises.

Players may need to adjust settings such as:

  • Texture quality
  • Shadow quality
  • Reflections
  • Volumetric effects
  • Crowd density
  • Draw distance
  • Ray tracing

This doesn't necessarily mean the game will look bad.

Modern games often provide numerous settings that allow players to find a balance between image quality and performance.

What About 60 FPS?

This is much harder to answer.

We simply don't know yet.

Anyone claiming that an RTX 3060 will definitely deliver 60 FPS in GTA 6 before Rockstar publishes PC requirements and the game is actually tested on PC is making an estimate, not reporting a confirmed result.

That's an important distinction for anyone researching hardware.

The RTX 3060 is capable of delivering strong performance in many modern games, but GTA 6 could have considerably different requirements.

So I'd describe 60 FPS as a target rather than a guarantee.

The 12GB VRAM Could Help

One of the RTX 3060's biggest advantages is its memory configuration.

NVIDIA lists the RTX 3060 with 12GB GDDR6 and a 192-bit memory interface.

Why does this matter?

Large open-world games can use substantial amounts of VRAM for:

  • Textures
  • Lighting data
  • Shadows
  • Geometry
  • Environmental assets
  • Streaming data

More VRAM doesn't automatically make a GPU faster, but it can help prevent certain memory limitations when a game uses high-quality assets.

For a massive open-world game like GTA 6, that is certainly something worth considering.

Don't Forget the CPU

There's another part of the equation that is easy to overlook.

GTA 6 performance won't depend entirely on your graphics card.

Open-world games can put substantial workloads on the processor because the CPU may need to handle:

  • NPCs
  • Traffic
  • Physics
  • AI
  • World simulation
  • Object streaming

Therefore, someone with an RTX 3060 and a strong modern CPU could have a very different experience from someone pairing the same GPU with an older processor.

SSD Storage Could Also Be Important

Modern open-world games increasingly rely on fast storage to stream large amounts of data.

While Rockstar hasn't announced GTA 6's PC storage requirement, players shouldn't assume that an old mechanical hard drive will provide the same experience as a modern SSD.

If GTA 6 eventually arrives on PC, an SSD would be a sensible expectation for anyone building a system specifically for the game.

But again, we should wait for Rockstar's official requirements before giving readers a specific storage number

Should RTX 3060 Owners Upgrade Before GTA 6?

I wouldn't recommend upgrading solely because you're worried about GTA 6 — not yet.

There is no confirmed PC specification that tells RTX 3060 owners they need to replace their graphics card.

If you already own an RTX 3060, the sensible approach is to wait for Rockstar to announce the PC version and its requirements.

Once those specifications are available, we'll have a much better idea of whether the RTX 3060 can handle the game comfortably.

Spending hundreds of dollars based on rumours would be unnecessary.

What Could Change the Situation?

The biggest unknown is Rockstar's PC version.

Rockstar has historically treated its PC versions as more than simple console ports. For example, the company's PC releases can introduce additional graphics options, higher resolutions, unlocked frame rates and other PC-specific features.

That means we shouldn't assume the console version's performance directly predicts PC performance.

It also means the eventual PC requirements could be significantly different from what people currently speculate.
